2023 Nissan Z Colors Ranked

The 2023 Nissan Z is here . It’s basically a heavily-updated version of the old 370Z , but it’s a blast to drive . You can’t buy one just yet — Nissan has delayed the on-sale date due to supply chain issues, and while pricing has been released, there’s still no build tool on Nissan’s US website. So we had to go to Nissan’s Japanese site to find a 360-degree viewer that showed all the available paint choices.

Nissan says the Z will be available in three monotone colors and six two-tone color schemes with a black roof. So here’s the new 2023 Nissan Z ’s colors, ranked in all their glory from worst to best.

This is it. This is the worst color you can get a Z in. Why? I hope I don’t offend, but to be blunt, it’s an old person’s color. It belongs on a Maxima, Toyota Avalon, or Buick Enclave. Not a $50,000 sports car with JDM vibes. I would’ve taken some kind of green over this.

Seriously Nissan, did you really need to give the newest version of your iconic sports car two gray paint options, on top of silver with silver? You almost can’t tell the difference between Gun Metallic and Boulder Gray. It’s a boring color that makes the otherwise exciting design of the Z seem dull.

Nissan is following that industry trend of giving the Z its own hue of cement mix gray, calling it Boulder gray. I don’t care for it. It comes across as flat here. And while this is a computer-generated image, it looks totally different from an actual picture of the car, where you see an almost bluish tint to the color. Either way, it’s a worn out color I’m tired of seeing that doesn’t work on every car.

It’s silver. I mean, it’s a weird silver. It’s not bad. But Brilliant Silver is odd. It looks like unpainted sheetmetal. Reminds me of the color you’d see on every bargain Nissan Versa.

Though I’m not usually a fan of red, Passion Red is a nice color and suits the Z well. This would be lower on this list if the car was completely red, but the contrasting black roof makes this look good.

I usually don’t like white cars. And while Everest White Pearl Tricoat has a nice name, it’s still white and sorta basic. But it works, especially with the dark wheels and red brake calipers. Bonus points to Nissan if you can get this color with a red interior. I’d buy that.

Black Diamond Metallic is classy. It just makes the Z look like a proper sports car to me. Combine that with a red interior that (I hope) is available, and it’s very nearly an ideal sports car combination.

Seiran Blue is the second-best color you can get on a Z. Although I will say it nearly beat out Ikazuchi Yellow for one simple reason: you can get a blue interior with it. It’s rare to find a car that offers an interior color in the same hue as its exterior. Most cars get a black, tan, or gray interior when you choose blue paint. But at Nissan, you can have your blue fix with Seiran Blue and blue upholstery. That’s great.

For some reason, this color is known by two different names. Here in the U.S., it’ll be called Ikazuchi Yellow; in Japan it’s called Squid Yellow. Either way, it’s cool as hell. Remember, we need more yellow cars . Bonus points for Nissan following through with the concept and giving the Z a yellow option. This is the best Z color by far.
