Daimler Trucks North America recalled 3,007 Freightliner and Western Star trucks from the 2018 model year to fix faulty brake caliper mounting bolts that may loosen and detach.

The defect hurts the ability of the trucks to brake and increases the risk of a crash, according to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects five models of 2018 Freightliner trucks, including Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Cascadia, M2 Business Class, Custom Chassis S2C 106 and S2G vehicles.

There are three types of 2018 Western Star trucks involved in the recall, including its 4700, 4900 and 5700 vehicles.

The trucks were built between May 2 and Oct. 31, 2017.

Daimler is the largest seller of heavy duty trucks in the U.S.

According to the NHTSA, Daimler plans to notify owners and dealers will inspect the brake mounting bolts for loose bolts and tighten them if necessary.

The recall is planned to begin Jan. 25. Repairs will be performed by Daimler authorized service facilities.
