PORTLAND, Ore. – Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) has agreed to recall certain model-year 2023 Western Star trucks to rectify a problem with improperly tightened caliper mounting bolts.

The recall affects 15 Western Star 47X trucks which may have the caliper-mounting bolts incorrectly torqued.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-299, “Insufficiently torqued bolts may not provide adequate clamping force between the brake caliper and brake anchor plate potentially resulting in reduced brake effectiveness. Reduced brake effectiveness could lead to a vehicle crash.”

The report also indicated certain warnings this condition might cause, “In some cases, loose caliper bolts may result in slight brake pull. Furthermore, loss of required clamp load may cause the brake caliper to come loose, leading to vibration and noise along with braking.”

The remedy involves bringing the trucks to a DTNA-franchised dealer for inspection and, if necessary, repairs to the caliper-mounting bolts.

Dealers and owners are scheduled to be notified of the recall beginning July 2nd.
