Canada's antitrust agency said on Friday it needs more time to investigate the concession offered by Rogers Communications Inc to allay competition concerns over its proposed C$20 billion ($15.5 billion) takeover of Shaw Communications Inc's, a move that Rogers swiftly opposed. In addition to price increases, Givaudan's half-year results benefited from rising perfume sales as airport travel recovers and a pick-up in the food segment as more people eat out. A new European Central Bank tool to shield indebted states from soaring borrowing costs failed to impress investors on Thursday, with many worried about a lack of detail and conditions that could make it tough for the likes of Italy to use. Unveiled alongside its first interest rate hike in 11 years, under the Transmission Protection Instrument (TPI), the ECB will buy bonds from countries whose borrowing costs relative to Germany it sees as soaring through no fault of their own. For markets, the most pressing need for the TPI is Italy, which this week saw the collapse of its government after Prime Minister Mario Draghi resigned, putting the second most-indebted euro zone member on course for early elections.

(Reuters) -AT&T Inc said some subscribers are taking more time to clear their bills, which partly led the U.S. wireless carrier to cut its annual free cash flow forecast by about $2 billion, sending its shares down as much as 11% on Thursday. The conservative forecast comes as AT&T joins other companies to prepare for a potential slowdown in consumer spending in the second half of the year against the backdrop of four-decades high inflation in the United States. Telecom companies have raised prices to combat a surge in input costs, with AT&T hiking rates on some of its older plans in June.
